Over the weekend Valen Wyse, a 2X Oregon State Champion, was on a biking trip from Hermiston, Oregon to the Oregon Coast. Valen was brand new to cycling and was caught in some nasty weather on Friday evening. Valen found himself stranded at Safeway in the Washougal area and did not have a place to stay for the night. Valen put out a message to the Couchsurfing (https://www.couchsurfing.com/) community hoping someone would be able to give him a place to rest for the night. Coach Vom Baur and his wife got the message and decided to host Valen without any knowledge that he was a wrestler or what he was doing in the area.
When Valen arrived at the Vom Baur’s Valen and Cory naturally began to talk about wrestling. Valen told the Vom Baurs about his wrestling career and his plans to ride to the Coast.
As the night went on Coach Cory Vom Baur decided that he would ride with Valen the rest of the way to the Oregon Coast. The two of them made the 100+ mile bike ride together and arrived in Astoria Saturday around 4:00 p.m.
Nice work Valen riding 400 miles in 3 days! Good luck next year!
We will be putting in another order for Camas Elite shirts this Friday. If you are interested in getting a shirt, please contact Karen Craig with the wrestler’s name and shirt size, or you can email her at firstname.lastname@example.org. They’re $15 each and are fabricated from performance material, so they should not shrink. Get your orders in soon!
Last weekend, Vance Vom Baur, nephew of Camas head coach, Cory Vom Baur, won the 2017 Colorado Middle School State Championship! He wrestled up a weight class at 115 lbs, and defeated Isaiah Rios from Milliken, CO. Both athletes were 30-0 on the season prior to the match, and Vance won 5-2. Vance also took home the “Most Outstanding Wrestler” award at the tournament. Vance carries on the winning pedigree that the Vom Baur household has come to expect, and the family could not be any more proud! Congratulations Vance Vom Baur!
Well known Camas wrestler, Rylan Thompson, is training for next season already. This past weekend Thompson (in blue) attended a greco wrestling tournament, and absolutely launched his opponent into the stratosphere! We had to share. Thanks to his family for sending us the shot and keep up the great work, Rylan!

After winning the Regional Tournament a week prior, Dylan Ingram battled in the Washington State Wrestling Tournament and came out victorious! Dylan bested Tahoma’s Dagen Kramer 7-4 and earned his gold medal in the 4A 220lbs division. The Camas wrestler also helped the school’s football team win the state finals earlier this year! His father, Jason Ingram, won a state championship in high school as well and could not be more proud! Dylan became CHS’ first wrestling state champion since Miguel Salamanca in 2011 and is the first champion under the Vom Baur era. Congrats to Dylan Ingram on a wonderful high school wrestling career!
Camas also had three other state placers being, Samuel Malychewski(4th), Rylan Thompson(7th), and Tanner Craig(8th). Congrats to these athletes and we’ll all have to keep an eye on these studs next year! What a perfect way to end this year’s season! #WeAreCamas #PapermakerPride
Yes, the Regional Tournament has been moved due to inclement weather. The tournament will now be held at Hanford High School and will begin on Friday with 2:30 p.m. weigh-ins and a 4:30 p.m. start time. Athletes will get the two pound growth allowance as scheduled for this tournament, and MUST remember their photo ID. CHS Wrestlers will need to be at Camas at 6:45 a.m. tomorrow morning. They are excused from school tomorrow as well. Some meal money is being provided to the athletes, however, wrestlers should still bring some money for grocery shopping and extra food. Lastly, remember all your gear for competition. Go Papermakers!
Congrats to all our CHS Wrestlers for honoring Camas at the District Tournament. This year, 21 males and 5 females qualified for regionals. This is BY FAR the most males Camas has ever qualified for the regional tournament!
All wrestlers that placed top 5 in Districts should not miss any practices this week. Since we had so many regional qualifiers, all other wrestlers are asked to continue with practice as normal. However, CHS coaches will understand that this may not be possible for some families due to other commitments.
Regionals will be at Richland High School on February 10th and 11th. Information regarding hotels were emailed to parents earlier this week. Additional information and details about the regional tournament can be found in the link to the flyer below. We hope to see several of you there supporting our regional qualifiers as they look to earn their way to the State Tournament!
Help feed our Coaches! Camas High School is hosting the boys district tournament at CHS Saturday, February 4th. Camas is known for providing one of the best coaches rooms around. Please help us take care of our coaches as every tournament provides a coaches room to minimize the need for coaches to worry about feeding themselves

Pictures should start around 3:00pm and then be followed by a late practice. Stay tuned to hear what Coach Vom Baur wants everyone to wear.
Please remember, if anyone has any varsity male gear (fight shorts, rash guard top, varsity top, varsity bottom, or singlet), to please bring it in to practice tomorrow. The gear should be washed and dried. If you have a White Varsity Singlet, please air dry these. If you are unable to get your gear washed by tomorrow still turn it in and just let a coach know that it is not washed when you are turning it in.
