On Saturday your Camas Papermakers competed in the Tyrone Woods Invitational. Throughout the course of the day the Makers were battling between 1st and 2nd. Heading into the finals the Makers were down by 15 points and had some very tough matches ahead of them. But, after a HUGE win by Junior Jack Latimer, beating Gavin Jolly (a two time Oregon State Champion), a pin from Junior Tanner Craig, a win from Sophomore Gideon Malychewski, and a tech fall from Senior Samuel Malychewski the Makers found themselves sitting in first place!
This was a complete team effort. Every wrestler in our room contributed to this milestone in our program.
Great Work WRESTLERS!

Over the weekend Valen Wyse, a 2X Oregon State Champion, was on a biking trip from Hermiston, Oregon to the Oregon Coast. Valen was brand new to cycling and was caught in some nasty weather on Friday evening. Valen found himself stranded at Safeway in the Washougal area and did not have a place to stay for the night. Valen put out a message to the Couchsurfing (https://www.couchsurfing.com/) community hoping someone would be able to give him a place to rest for the night. Coach Vom Baur and his wife got the message and decided to host Valen without any knowledge that he was a wrestler or what he was doing in the area.
When Valen arrived at the Vom Baur’s Valen and Cory naturally began to talk about wrestling. Valen told the Vom Baurs about his wrestling career and his plans to ride to the Coast.
As the night went on Coach Cory Vom Baur decided that he would ride with Valen the rest of the way to the Oregon Coast. The two of them made the 100+ mile bike ride together and arrived in Astoria Saturday around 4:00 p.m.
Nice work Valen riding 400 miles in 3 days! Good luck next year!
We will be putting in another order for Camas Elite shirts this Friday. If you are interested in getting a shirt, please contact Karen Craig with the wrestler’s name and shirt size, or you can email her at kcraig300@comcast.net. They’re $15 each and are fabricated from performance material, so they should not shrink. Get your orders in soon!
Last weekend, Vance Vom Baur, nephew of Camas head coach, Cory Vom Baur, won the 2017 Colorado Middle School State Championship! He wrestled up a weight class at 115 lbs, and defeated Isaiah Rios from Milliken, CO. Both athletes were 30-0 on the season prior to the match, and Vance won 5-2. Vance also took home the “Most Outstanding Wrestler” award at the tournament. Vance carries on the winning pedigree that the Vom Baur household has come to expect, and the family could not be any more proud! Congratulations Vance Vom Baur!
Well known Camas wrestler, Rylan Thompson, is training for next season already. This past weekend Thompson (in blue) attended a greco wrestling tournament, and absolutely launched his opponent into the stratosphere! We had to share. Thanks to his family for sending us the shot and keep up the great work, Rylan!
Latimer House Pizza Party tomorrow from 6-8 pm. This is an open invite for any Wrestler from the 8th through the 12th grade! We hope to see you there! Please RSVP on the link below.
